In Point, most of the shore-based names are in Gaelic and their meaning obvious: A' Gheodha Bhàn [The Light-coloured Gully], Eilean Nam Marbh [The Isle of the Dead]. However, there are others that are of Norse origin: Sinigeadh, Roisinis, Osabhaig.

The aim of this site is to provide a searchable database of the placenames of Point, and, as far as possible, supply ann English description of the names. © Calum Ferguson. Abbreviations used are as follows: G. - Gaelic; N. Norse

Users can conduct a search based on the categories of Village and Type of Site. The data is viewable via Google Map icons. By clicking on an icon the placename and description are displayed.
